My Three Favorite Authors

Some authors are able to strike a chord within you and make an instant connect – while on the other hand, some fail to make any impact. Ardent book readers would always have a few of their chosen authors whose books or work they will always read up no matter what. The reasons may vary – could be the style of writing, subject of the books, central characters or themes, personal traits of the author etc.

To me the style of writing and the subject matter most. Let me share my threesome with you.

  1. Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
The first book I read, written by this author completely blew me away – it is “The place of Illusions”. A sensitive portrayal giving a different perspective all together. I almost instantly took a liking to her style of writing – simple and appealing, lucid yet lyrical. It almost feels like a painter painting his/her imagination. She has the gift of weaving emotions into stories. Most of her books let the readers get through two different values and cultures as if stemming from her personal experience which never fails to touch on innermost feelings. The elegance with which she weaves her story around female characters, one cannot but help marveling at her eloquence. The mix of cultures give an altogether different hue to her stories. She writes for all ages – children and adults, as also in multiple genres. Above all she is a best-selling author, poet, activist and teacher of writing.
  2. Richard Bach
An unconventional writer – his books though not many in number are fiction as well as non-fiction. What I like about his books is that they are closer and true to life being semi autobiographical in nature – using incidents and events from his life. His books are a reflection of his philosophy. As a writer he is among one of the most beloved ones. He is also called an inspirational writer and an aviator-author, since most of his works are based on his experiences of flying as a fighter pilot with the USAF. He has touched millions of people around the globe with his knowledge, wit and wisdom. His usual style of writing is descriptive and ornate, yet easy to understand. If I were to classify his genre of writing it would be Aviation, fantasy and philosophy
  3. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
A prolific writer who originally was a physician is one of my favorites. I have loved reading his works and admired him for having created the most famous detective character – Sherlock Holmes. Till date I have not found a fictional character so intriguingly intelligent, who solved cases on his own merits and not look for mistakes or follies of the criminal. His other books are known for their colorful, flowery and descriptive language which helps the reader in conjuring up images and visualizing the story better. One of the unique and iconic styles of writing of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is his spectacular wording. Although he has written many novels – his short stories have always been more popular with the reading class. Right from the introduction to the last line, his stories keep up the excitement and the reader engrossed. A best selling author of the 19th century – his books cannot be given a miss.
