What I do When I am Not Reading Books

Not all those who wander are lost, it is often said. Sometimes my mind also wanders away to different worlds, not found in the world of books.

I often wonder amidst old monuments and parks and love losing myself to nature. These old heritage structures ignite in me the quest for learning about life in those days.

Interests and hobbies which are multifarious and diverse, there is a whole array of things which spice up my life.

A passionate gardener, the early mornings and late afternoons find me in my own mini Mughal garden or looking after my mini food forest. Yes, you read it right – I love to grow my own food, organic and chemical free. Admiring and marveling at the innumerable bounties of nature it is not just a pastime but a passion. Right from making my own soil and manure to filling up the pots, saving and sowing seeds – I enjoy doing it myself and getting my hands dirty while remaining connected to mother earth. Growing flowers, fruits and vegetables – it is my go to place at all times.

It fuels in me the desire to be experimental and try out newer things whether it be cooking or eating. Being a foodie I am compelled to try out newer dishes and variety of food which has in turn honed up my culinary skills and made me the star chef of my own personalized home restaurant.

What is life without music – dull and boring!! Ranging from classical Indian to old Bollywood or English country music – there is never a dull moment in my life. Soft instrumental music is like an inseparable companion even while reading books. An integral part of my daily routine – music is food for my soul.

Had I not been in the profession that I am – I could have been a clothes designer too. Designing, remodeling clothes keeps my creativity flowing and I must admit that I am an ardent window shopper too. Gazing at the display in shops, walking through flea markets, street bazaars as also the upscale high end markets always finds a place in my otherwise packed schedule.

Sustainable living, working towards a better environment, social initiatives like tree planting, water conservation, reducing – recycling – reusing – upcycling, – these are the ultimate condiments which spice up my life. So when I am not reading a book I would be found enjoying any of the above.
